The Avro Lancaster was the RAFs most famous heavy bomber in World War II and entered service in 1942. More than 7,300 aircraft were built for the Royal Air Force Bomber Command. One of the RAFs most important goals was to destroy the dams in the Ruhr area, which supplied important industrial facilities with electricity.
